Recording Your First Tab
Recording is one of Roc Solution's most powerful features. It allows you to capture your playing and convert it into tablature notation that you can save, edit, and play back.
Getting Started with Recording
Step 1: Start Recording
1. Scroll down to the Tab Display panel at the bottom of the page2. Click the Record button (red button with a dot icon)3. The button will turn red and show "Stop" - you're now recording!
Visual Indicators:
- The Tab Display border turns red
- "Recording..." text appears in the header
- The Record button pulses
Step 2: Play Your Notes
While recording, play notes normally:
- Click frets on the fretboard, OR
- Use keyboard shortcuts
- Play single notes or chords
- The system automatically captures everything
Step 3: Understanding Chord Detection
Roc Solution has intelligent chord detection:
- Notes played within 50ms are grouped as a chord
- Chords appear aligned vertically in the tab
- Single notes appear individually
Tip: To play chords, press all keys simultaneously or click multiple frets quickly.
Step 4: Timing and Spacing
The system automatically adds timing information:
- 1 dash = Short gap (< 200ms between notes)
- 2 dashes = Longer gap (> 200ms between notes)
- This creates natural rhythm in your tabs
Best Practice: Play at a consistent tempo for better timing.
Step 5: Stop Recording
1. Click the Stop button (same red button)2. Your recorded tab appears in the Tab Display3. Review the notation
Understanding Tab Notation
Tab Format
Tabs show six lines, one for each string:
E|--------------------------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------------|
G|--------------------------------------------------|
D|--------------------------------------------------|
A|--------------------------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------------|Reading Notes
- Numbers represent frets (1-13)
- Dashes (-) represent timing/spacing
- Vertical alignment = chords (played together)
- Horizontal sequence = melody (played in order)
Example Tab
E|--0--2--3--|
B|--2--3--5--|
G|--2--2--0--|
D|--2--0-----|
A|--0--------|
