Tutorial & Learn Mode Explained

Master the Practice and Learn modes. Understand progress tracking, auto-advance, and folder-based progression.

Tutorial & Learn Mode Explained

Roc Solution offers two powerful learning modes: Practice Mode and Learn Mode. These features help you learn songs systematically and track your progress.

Understanding the Two Modes

Practice Mode

  • Purpose: Visual guidance without tracking
  • Features: Highlights the current note to play
  • Best For: Learning the notes without pressure
  • No Progress Tracking: Play any note, no validation

Learn Mode

  • Purpose: Structured learning with progress tracking
  • Features: Validates correct notes, tracks completion
  • Best For: Mastering songs step-by-step
  • Progress Tracking: Notes turn yellow when played correctly

Enabling Tutorial Modes

Step 1: Load a Tab

Tutorial modes work with saved tabs:1. Click Load in the Tab Display2. Select a folder and tab3. Or record/create a tab first

Step 2: Enable Practice Mode

1. In the Tab Display, find the Tutorial Controls section2. Click the Practice button3. The current note group is highlighted on the fretboard4. Play the highlighted note(s)

Visual Feedback:

  • Current notes glow on the fretboard
  • Tab notation shows current position in white
  • No validation - just guidance

Step 3: Enable Learn Mode

1. Click the Learn button (yellow button)2. Progress tracking is now active3. Play notes in sequence4. Correct notes turn yellow in the tab

Visual Feedback:

  • Current notes highlighted on fretboard
  • Completed notes turn yellow in tab
  • Progress counter shows "Note X of Y"

How Learn Mode Works

Sequential Validation

Learn Mode validates notes strictly in order:

  • You must play the current note to advance
  • Wrong notes are ignored (no error shown)
  • Correct notes advance to the next position
  • Each note group must be completed

Note Groups

The system groups notes intelligently:

  • Chords = notes at the same position (played together)
  • Single notes = individual positions
  • Groups are processed sequentially

Progress Tracking

Visual Indicators:

  • White text = Current note to play
  • Yellow text = Completed notes
  • Gray text = Upcoming notes
  • Progress counter = "Note X of Y"

Auto-Advance

When you play the correct note:1. Note turns yellow (completed)2. System automatically advances to next note3. New note highlighted on fretboard4. Progress counter updates

Navigation Controls

Previous Note

  • Click the left arrow button
  • Go back to previous note group
  • Useful for review

Next Note

  • Click the right arrow button
  • Skip to next note group
  • Useful if you already know a section

Reset

  • Click the reset button (circular arrow)
  • Start from the beginning
  • Clears all progress

Folder-Based Progression

Auto-Progression Feature

When using Learn Mode with folders:1. Select a folder in the Load dialog2. Complete all notes in the first tab3. System automatically loads the next tab4. Continues through the folder

Use Case: Create a learning sequence:

  • Tab 1: Simple chords
  • Tab 2: Basic melody
  • Tab 3: Chord progression
  • Tab 4: Full song

Setting Up Learning Folders

1. Create a new folder2. Save tabs in learning order3. Use descriptive names (e.g., "Lesson 1", "Lesson 2")4. Select the folder in Learn Mode5. System progresses automatically

Practice Tips

For Beginners

1. Start with Practice Mode

  • Learn the notes without pressure
  • Get familiar with the song
  • No tracking = less stress

2. Switch to Learn Mode

  • Once comfortable, enable tracking
  • Focus on accuracy
  • Build muscle memory

For Advanced Users

1. Use Folder Progression

  • Create lesson sequences
  • Build complexity gradually
  • Track overall progress

2. Combine with Recording

  • Record your practice sessions
  • Compare with original tabs
  • Identify areas to improve

Understanding Note Groups

Single Notes

E|--2--|
B|-----|
G|-----|

One note = one group

Chords

E|--0--|
B|--2--|
G|--2--|
D|--2--|

Multiple notes at same position = one group

Mixed Sequences

E|--0--2--3--|
B|--2--3--5--|
G|--2--2--0--|

Each position = separate group

Common Workflows

Learning a New Song

1. Load or Record the tab2. Enable Practice Mode - learn the notes3. Switch to Learn Mode - practice with tracking4. Repeat until all notes turn yellow5. Save progress by completing the tab

Creating a Learning Sequence

1. Record simple exercises first2. Save to a folder in order3. Enable Learn Mode with folder selected4. Progress through tabs automatically5. Build complexity gradually

Review and Practice

1. Load a completed tab2. Enable Learn Mode3. Reset to start fresh4. Practice until perfect5. Compare with previous attempts

Troubleshooting

Q: Notes not turning yellow?A: Make sure Learn Mode (not just Practice Mode) is enabled. Also ensure you're playing the exact current note.

Q: Can't advance to next note?A: You must play the current note correctly. Wrong notes don't advance - just play the highlighted note.

Q: Progress not saving?A: Progress resets when you load a new tab. Use folders to create learning sequences that persist.

Q: Auto-progression not working?A: Ensure you've selected a folder (not just loaded a single tab). All notes in current tab must be completed.

Q: Can I skip notes?A: Yes, use the Next button to skip. But for best learning, play each note correctly.

Best Practices

1. Start Simple: Begin with easy tabs before complex ones2. Use Both Modes: Practice Mode for learning, Learn Mode for mastery3. Create Sequences: Use folders for structured learning4. Track Progress: Watch the yellow notes accumulate5. Be Patient: Learning takes time - use Reset to practice sections

Next Steps

Combine Tutorial Mode with other features:

  • Recording: Create your own practice tabs
  • Saving: Organize tabs into learning folders
  • Auto-Play: Listen to tabs while learning
  • Sound Controls: Adjust tone for better practice

Tutorial and Learn modes transform Roc Solution from a simple player into a comprehensive learning tool. Use them to master songs systematically!
